Many fellow Canadians have been thinking about these same issues. It feels like a countdown has started before turbulence takes over. We will all be affected by the topics you identified, whether we like it or not. Your analysis from the military point of view is very helpful and appreciated.

Yes, my concern as well, especially after the Poilievre/Peterson podcast. I cannot as a woman vote for this man if that is his party view.

In Asia, Japan, South Korea and Australia are all lifting military spending - Australia has already hit 2 5% of GDP - and the QUAD group, which includes India, is working together to blunt North Korea and China's activities, with Australia hosting big military exercises.

Xi can't afford to cause a war because China's struggling economy needs continued access to new markets for its products, so he is keeping his military hardliners under tight control.

If Trump slaps on import tariffs, paid by American consumers as higher prices in shops, much of the world will simply bypass America and boost trade among themselves.

China has just opened a new port in Peru, to bypass the USA, under its huge Belt and Road program. The USA will lose economic importance.

What we need presently, for Musk, is the old Scythian Solution (or Phrygian, Mycenian, Roman or Egyptian one) dealt out to pretenders. Functional yet Draconian.

Excellent article even if I am deeply saddened by Trudeau stepping down. PoiLIEvre is too much the Maga wanna be. And Jasmeet has just committed political suicide. We all need to pull together right now. Not split into simmering factions. Everything has changed. Like it or not we are at war already. This is not time for business as usual infighting.
