More and more, CAN-OZ-UK-NZ - (pick an acronym) should be discussing alignment beyond 5-eyes with a military, social able economic alliance. Free movement and combined military services would provide a significant force multiplier beyond even NATO.
Gabbard worries me most of all. I can’t see the experienced, established French or British intelligence services trusting her with anything. She’s a joke and a Russian bot. But what then? Will the US be left out-of-the-loop?
I wish I knew. There’ll be an enormous desire, especially in Ottawa, to carry on as though nothing has changed so as to avoid offence. Our inability to take a stand and take practical steps is maddening.
From the little information that’s come my way, I’ve concluded that CSIS are no fools. What I’ve also concluded, is that their info is not always taken with the seriousness it deserves. So yeah, you’re probably right.
It is truly time for Canadians to quit being naive. We weren’t always so US reliant. The end of the Avro Arrow (to me) seems when Canada caved to US interests. Trump is not like other politicians, he isn’t a leader, he’s a bully, if anyone accepts him, then that entity must be loyal, and that means accepting humiliation. See Tim Scott, and what made me beyond angry, Mr. Zelenskyy with Trump at their “press conference”. Canada cannot be seen in that light, ever. Nor, should Canada ever allow Zelenskyy be seen in that way, ever again, if we can avoid it.
With as inward-focused as Mr. Trump’s nominees appear to be, frankly Canada could take the Great Lakes and the lakeshore counties on the US side of the lakes without anybody noticing. I remember embarrassing JD Vance at a campaign event here in Ohio when he was running for senator. He was all hot and bothered talking about the southern border of the US at the event. It broke his brain when I asked him what his views were of the northern border and how he intended to help make prosperous the northern border communities that he would literally represent. To this day he acts as if Ohio doesn’t border Canada even though the line is out in the lake between Pelee Island and the Bass islands group.

Weirdly, it is a proposal in the CPC policy document. I was pleasantly surprised.
I’ve had the same thoughts. We may be the last true democracies once Project 25 gets underway down below.
I just spit out my rum toddy with your "true democracies" statement.
Haha, I knew I'd get a response like that.

"I doubt there’s been a bigger group of unqualified misfits promoted to high office in a major democratic country."
Seriously!?!? Have you not looked at Justin Trudeaus cabinet? However, you may be excused as perhaps Canada is no longer a "major democratic country."
