I can only hope. I read my Commissioning Scroll just yesterday in my den and it still means a lot. I have not quit the military, I have retired from active service and that Scroll is still in effect. Both Trudeaus moved us away from that relationship to the point that today we are neither closely linked to Britain or now, closely aligned with the US. Establishing new allegiances as quickly as possible is important and that once strong relationship with Britain should be at the top of the list.

I greatly enjoy your assessments. I tend to agree but I’m less certain that a true military invasion is the objective.

I believe we are seen as a soft target. What the new American power structure wants is unfettered access to our resources and inherent wealth. They don’t want to have to deal with our cultural, political or social issues. They probably believe they can squeeze us into capitulation while at the same time grooming public opinion in case a military option is needed.

We need Canadian leadership to evolve a multi pronged strategy to rebuild our economy around a military build up , and a world class clean energy strategy. We can take advantage of new America’s distain for medical research to chart a strategy around health care research, technology, and delivery systems that allow Canada to become a health care provider to the world. We will need to create added value to maintain a role in the new world order, we need to think big and invest bigger.

We know these are complex ideas and they will not be simple to develop , but It’s our time to stand tall .

I’m an old man who’s going out sooner rather than later but I’d rather go out as a lion than a lamb!
